How do you transcribe a file in Dropbox?

To turn a Dropbox video to text, click Share on the file itself, not its folder, copy a link anyone can view and paste it above. Kalpa transcribes the audio straight from the link, so you don’t download the file first. The first 2 minutes of any Dropbox file are free here; the rest is in Kalpa.

Transcribe what clients and teammates share by link

Client interviews, raw footage and team recordings often arrive as Dropbox links. Paste each file’s link and get timestamped text without downloading anything.

Good to know

  • Password-protected links can’t be opened.
  • Folder links don’t work — link the file itself.
  • Large files may take a moment to start.
  • Files on your computer can be uploaded directly up to 100 MB; a Dropbox link saves you downloading them first.

Questions and answers

Can I paste a Dropbox folder link?

No, Kalpa can’t open Dropbox folder links, so open the folder and copy the share link of each file you want transcribed.

How much of a Dropbox video is free?

Can I upload the file instead of sharing a Dropbox link?

Yes, you can upload a video or audio file of up to 100 MB directly, but for files already in Dropbox the share link saves you downloading them first.

Is my Dropbox file stored?

Kalpa deletes the audio from your Dropbox file right after the transcript is made, keeps the text for 24 hours so the same recording isn’t processed twice, then deletes it, and does not use it to train models.
